At the moment the biggest part of this bs has to do with the grouper and snapper fishery along the SE coast from NC down to Key West. Our wonderful Pres. and congress have allowed the tree huggers to get to them and have totally shut down the grouper and snapper fishery along this stretch of the US. There is no harvesting comercially or recereationaly of any grouper and several of the major snapper species at this moment in time. No matter if u catch them while fishing for other species, you must throw them back. Even though u can supposedly pop the air bladders and stomach and they should make it, many times the fish dies and just floats off. This went into effect back in mid December and is in effect until May 1. However the bill is out there still that could shut this fishery down for a long time. In the short amt. of time this has been in effect it has had major implications on the on both fisheries. Many restaurants no longer offer grouper and snapper on the menu here and the ones that do have had to raise the price drastically due to having to import it into the area. What ashame; we can't offer locally caught fish in our coastal restaurants. Many of the commercial fisherman, tackle shops, and marinas have been drastically impacted by this bill already. Some of the commercial fisherman have gone under and others are just barely hanging on. This bottom fishery is way more consistent year round than the bluewater fishery for many of the states invoved especially during the winter months and with not being able to harvest these fish many people have quit fishing. I know of several caravans of people from SC who have gone to Washington to protest on the days the bills were talked about and voted on and none of them could say they felt that it did any good. It appears that this has the possibility of effecting many different fisheries from coast to coast and it appears that the public will have no say in the outcome which is a real shame. Seems like a great way to help help the unemployment rate as well doesn't it. You can't imagine just how many peoples livelyhood are being affected by this.

Thanks for the info. It seems right in line with a lot of Obama's anti-sportsmen policy and political appointments. F'in Democrats. I hope every one of them learn what it's like to be unemployed come next election.

On a MUCH lighter note, I just read your signature and laughed my ass off. I remember Langford saying that at Big Lake and I still think it's possibly the funniest thing I heard last year.

Whats a normal sounding call cost a man these days. Not sure i can afford one of those squeaky ones.
Joe, yall's democrats must have a more sophisticated pallet(grennel/gar) than ours. Ours prefer those "sweet breams". The local roadside bridge fishery still seems to be on stable ground.

Oh I know bluegills. I grew up on them and still consider them my favorite fish to eat. I've just never heard them called sweat bream before.

No, No, No. A sweet bream here in SC is those little tiny "tree" finger sized bream and smaller that most people normally throw back. However the local democrats here in SC call them sweet breams( not bream, add the s) and when asked why they are keeping the smaller ones they just say those is sweet breams. No bs.
